Apple created their iBooks to resemble a real bookshelf. This is probably so that people feel a familiarity with new technology.

Responsive design can adapt to different screen sizes, e.g. tablet, iPhone, Mac. It is something that is very important to take into consideration when designing a website, it should be able to work at different sizes. The difficult thing is to keep the design universal throughout the sizes.
The Rise of Flat Design
The latest web trend is for everything to be minimal, clean and flat. Turning away from skeuomorphism and opting for simpler designs.
